We started canning/freezing veggies/fruit about 2 months ago and it seems it has been non stop since then! Tomatoes, salsa, pears, green beans, corn and pickles. Wow, we have a lot down in our crawlspace and my hubs had to add more shelves. This weekend we hit a particular favorite time of mine, grapes. We have grape vines on our property and we make juice and jelly from them. Saturday our house smelled of grape juice the minute you entered it.
My second favorite time is Cider time. We have four apple trees and take any donations for making cider. DH bought an apple press about four years ago, and I thought he was a little nuts at the time, but wow, we save so much money on cider! I saw this weekend it is $4.69 a gallon at the store. Whew! We usually freeze over 15 gallons and make apple sauce. We still have a couple of weeks before we get to do that, but I am hopeful.
In my quest to do things homemade, I have begun making granola bars at home and I am amazed at how much my kids love them. They are inexpensive to make and you can add your own goodies. The best part, the kids are eating oatmeal!

Disappointment
This week I heard the news that I didn't get a position that I applied for. It was a blow to the ol' ego, but in the long run I think it will work out. It is not that I am unhappy where I am, I just need a little more challenging work to do. My desire right now is to move into a role where I have more responsibilities and possibly work with event planning. Although it was a tough day when I got the email, I had my doubts after the second interview. Sometimes my intuition can be spot on (unfortunately). So, I dusted myself off picked up my pride off the floor and went to work the next day with a fresh, positive attitude. And well, since then so many things have gone wrong.

Learning as I get older
Today I attended a professional development lecture and luncheon. The gal that spoke was a young girl just recently graduated from CMU. Her lecture was about Social Media. I know that this is the way the young people communicate, having their entire lives out in the open, but to me, it is something I have a hard time letting go. I suppose it dates me saying that. I don't like to update my twitter, or post a status on Facebook every day. It is just not me, but I do like to read other blogs. I am on the Hip2Save blog, a wonderful site of savings and couponing. The owner of that blog is a wonderful source of information and great deals.
I know I need to jump onto this Social Media bandwagon. So, today I updated my twitter account, joined some CMU groups and am going to begin my move into this age. I believe the way that things were done in my field (communication) are changing and have changed so much, I need to be open and learning everyday how to communicate.
With my Masters class, I have to choose a topic that will become my Capstone Project. I have a few ideas, but after this mornings lecture, I am wondering if I don't want to add the possibility of "social media" in there somewhere. The ideas I currently have are 1) The Combination of print and digital media necessary for communication. 2) Print versus social media: how to gain the attention of Gen Z for college enrollment.
So far it is a work in process. Hopefully by the time I get to the Capstone course, I have it all worked out! Good day to all.

He got the job
Well, to update my last blog, my husband got the job. He has currently ended his employment with his last company, has this week off, then begins his new job on the 21st at Central Michigan University. We couldn't be happier.

Nervous for my hubbs
Today my husband has a job interview. I am nervous and excited for him all at once. I want to post on Facebook and ask for so many prayers and good wishes, but I don't want to embarrass him. You see, my husband is a proud man, one that doesn't like unnecessary attention. He has had several job interviews in the past year and a half, but not one of them offered him the position, he always came in second. So, here I sit today, wanting this so badly for him and have no outlet for myself. I decided my best bet was to journal my thoughts and feelings. Here on my blog, no one knows who I am or my husband, but writing is so therapeutic for me. It lets me vent my feelings, good and bad and get them off my chest. I believe this is a healthy thing to do mentally....and a lot of people I know should try it! So, if anyone does read this, please pray for my husband to have a GREAT interview today and be offered this position. It would bring him closer to home, no travel to get to work and give him the ego boost that he needs.
